Bidual Horn Functions and Extensions

چکیده
Partially defined Boolean functions (pdBf) , where are disjoint sets of true and false vectors, generalize total Boolean functions by allowing that the function values on some input vectors are unknown. The main issue with pdBfs is the extension problem, which is deciding, given a pdBf, whether it is interpolated by a function from a given class of total Boolean functions, and computing a formula for . In this paper, we consider extensions of bidual Horn functions, which are the Boolean functions such that both and its dual function are Horn. They are intuitively appealing for considering extensions because they give a symmetric role to positive and negative information (i.e., true and false vectors) of a pdBf, which is not possible with arbitrary Horn functions. Bidual Horn functions turn out to constitute an intermediate class between positive and Horn functions which retains several benign properties of positive functions. Besides the extension problem, we study recognition of bidual Horn functions from Boolean formulas and properties of normal form expressions. We show that finding a bidual Horn extension and checking biduality of a Horn DNF is feasible in polynomial time, and that the latter is intractable from arbitrary formulas. We also give characterizations of shortest DNF expressions of a bidual Horn function and show how to compute such an expression from a Horn DNF for in polynomial time; for arbitrary Horn functions, this is NP-hard. Furthermore, we show that a polynomial total algorithm for dualizing a bidual Horn function exists if and only if there is such an algorithm for dualizing a positive function.

Recognition and dualization of disguised bidual Horn functions
We consider the problem of dualizing a Boolean function f given by CNF, i.e., computing a CNF for its dual f. While this problem is not solvable in quasi-polynomial total time in general (unless SAT is solvable in quasi-polynomial time), it is so in case the input belongs to special classes, e.g., the class of bidual Horn CNF φ [9] (i.e., both φ and its dual φ represent Horn functions). In this...
متن کاملEnvelopes of Holomorphy and Extension of Functions of Bounded Type
In this article we characterize the envelope of holomorphy for the algebra of bounded type holomorphic functions on Riemann domains over a Banach space in terms of the spectrum of the algebra. We prove that evaluations at points of the envelope are always continuous but we show an example of a balanced open subset of c0 where the extensions to the envelope are not necessarily of bounded type, a...

RELFUN reciprocally extends Horn RELations and call-by-value FUNctions just enough to yield a uniied operator concept. Relations acquire application nesting and higher-order notation; functions acquire non-groundness and non-determinism. Relations are deened by Horn-like clauses implicitly returning true; functions are deened by rules with an additional returned-value premise. This minimal rela...
متن کاملON THE FUZZY SET THEORY AND AGGREGATION FUNCTIONS: HISTORY AND SOME RECENT ADVANCES
Several fuzzy connectives, including those proposed by Lotfi Zadeh, can be seen as linear extensions of the Boolean connectives from the scale ${0,1}$ into the scale $[0,1]$. We discuss these extensions, in particular, we focus on the dualities arising from the Boolean dualities. These dualities allow to transfer the results from some particular class of extended Boolean functions, e.g., from c...
متن کاملOn the Hahn-Banach theorem for Hilbert C*-modules
We show that for a given C*-algebra A and for any pair of Hilbert A-modules {{M, 〈., .〉},N ⊆ M} every bounded A-linear mapping r : N → A can be continued to a bounded A-linear mapping r : M → A so that (i) ‖r‖ = ‖r‖, (ii) r restricted to N equals r and (iii) the extended mappings of N ′ form a Banach A-submodule of M wherein the extensions {r n : n ∈ N} of the standardly embedded mappings {rn =...
